A South African research-peptide vendor with unusually thorough, consistently-worded policies and disclaimers once its site is actually rendered — but whose sitemap-declared retatrutide listings turned out to be stale; no retatrutide product is currently live.

What we verified

Using a browser-based re-check of protopep.co.za, we independently confirmed the full rendered text of its About, Contact, Shipping Policy, Return Policy, Privacy Policy, Terms & Conditions, Products catalogue and Dosage Calculator pages [44][45][46][47][48][49]. We also confirmed that although the site's own sitemap declares five retatrutide product URLs (15/20/30/40/60mg), every one of them renders “Product not found”, and the live 40-item product catalogue contains no retatrutide listing at all [43][51]. We independently checked two likely Hellopeter URLs for this vendor and found neither exists.

What the vendor claims

Protopep describes itself as a supplier of “premium research peptides” for “researchers and scientific institutions,” citing ≥99% purity via “advanced solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS)” techniques and “rigorous HPLC and mass spectrometry analysis,” with Certificates of Analysis available on request. Its Terms & Conditions state, in capitals, that “ALL PRODUCTS ARE FOR RESEARCH PURPOSES ONLY. NOT FOR HUMAN OR ANIMAL CONSUMPTION,” and that products are not approved by the FDA, SAHPRA, or any regulatory body [44][49].

Testing & documentation

Testing claims are repeated consistently across the homepage, About page, Contact FAQ and Return Policy: ≥99% purity, HPLC/mass-spectrometry analysis, and a Certificate of Analysis for every batch. However, no third-party laboratory is named anywhere on the site, and COAs are described as “available upon request” or provided only “with a valid Certificate of Analysis” on return — meaning this review could not view an actual COA document or check a batch number against any independent source.

Business transparency

The Contact page publishes an email (info@protopep.co.za), a phone number (+27 71 044 8105), and business hours (Mon–Fri, 9am–5pm SAST), with location given only as “South Africa” — no city, suburb or street address [45]. No business registration or CIPC number was found on any page. The Return Policy page separately lists a different contact email (info@protopep.com) and a phone number rendered as the literal placeholder text “+27 (0) XXX-XXXX” rather than a real number [47] — an inconsistency this review could not resolve.

Shipping

Protopep's Shipping Policy is unusually detailed for this market sample: it itemises courier rates by region (R195 for Gauteng and major inland cities, R245 for Cape Town/Durban including a stated jet-fuel surcharge, R345 for outlying areas, free for in-person Johannesburg collection), states orders are processed same-day before noon SAST, and describes cold-chain packaging rated for 72 hours in transit [46]. We verified this text is genuinely published; we did not independently test actual delivery performance.

Refunds & returns

The Return Policy sets out specific accepted grounds (damaged, incorrect, quality-issue, or unopened-within-14-days) and explicitly excludes opened/reconstituted products, with a stated 5–7 business day refund turnaround and an RMA process [47]. This is one of the more detailed refund policies in this edition. As noted above, the contact details on this specific page do not match those on the main Contact page.

Protopep's own Terms & Conditions explicitly state its products are not approved by the FDA or SAHPRA and are intended strictly for laboratory research by qualified researchers or institutions — one of the more direct and legally-specific regulatory statements found in this edition. Its dosing/reconstitution calculator likewise carries its own “research use only” note. Set against that, its /accessories catalogue is titled “Peptide Administration Accessories” and sells real pharmaceutical-brand self-injection pens (Sanofi AllStar, Lilly HumaPen Ergo II, Novo Nordisk NovoPen 4) explicitly for “precise peptide dosing” — administration-oriented language that sits uneasily beside a strict research-only framing [52]. That same re-check found that retatrutide, despite being declared in the site's own sitemap in five dosages, is not actually available: every retatrutide product URL renders “Product not found,” and no retatrutide listing appears in the live 40-product catalogue.

Once actually rendered, Protopep's site turned out to have some of the most thorough, consistently-worded policies and research-use disclaimers in this edition — a real strength this review could not see in an earlier pass. Set against that: its own “administration accessories” catalogue sells real self-injection hardware in dosing-oriented language, its sitemap's retatrutide listings are stale (every one 404s on the live site, and its Peptide Finder tags retatrutide research-only with no price), no testing laboratory is named, no business registration is published, and two of its own pages give inconsistent contact details.
